PORTAGE TRAIL VIPERS Become Provincial Champs!

For those of us who have been waiting for 16 years, this news has a nice ring to it!  Tony Kinnarath had a dream. Two years ago at our first parent meeting he communicated his dream-our goal was to win the MSA Cup.  This was our goal and through hard work and dedication the girls successfully accomplished it.

Congratulations to Anisha Kinnarath for being named the MVP of the final game. If there was ever a game that was a team victory this was it: Chrissy Brown was solid in goal; Erika Willows, Simone Goldstone, Taylor Owen and Alexis Flynn shut down their attack in defense; Renee Therrien, Jaclyn Fraser, Marissa Auger and Nikki Tamoto ran miles and controlled the midfield; Rebecca Wroblewski constantly forced the play; Anisha Kinnarath and Haley Davis scored timely goals; all the girls who came in off the bench worked hard and kept up the pressure.  We outworked every other team we played in the provincials and the defense only gave up one goal in three provincial games!

A big thanks to Tony for his hard work over the past two years and for his dream.  A special thanks to Mike Rousseau for getting the girls fit and working with them tightening up their defense.   Also parental support is a key in our success and deserving of recognition. We wouldn't have made it this far if you and your families hadn't sacrificed most of your summer.  It was nice to see so many girls consistently out at practice over the summer.  Hopefully the girls learned hard work and commitment pays off.

All of PTSC is very excited about the record-setting MSA Cup season in 2006.  For the first time in a very long time in PTSC history, one of our teams is a Manitoba champion and will be going to Nationals.  Tony Kinnerath's u14 Girls Premier team will do us all proud in Vaughn ON. And we heartily congratulate all those players and team management for making PTSC history.

As well, the u14 and u16 boys premier teams competed in the provincial championship games.  Despite heroic efforts from the players, each team was narrowly defeated.  Nevertheless, PTSC is extremely pleased with the effort and dedication that Gerry Lomonaco, his team management and team demonstrated in a very exciting game.  We are also pleased with Romel Ghelmeci, his team staff and team displayed as they displayed a  fighting spirit, strength and skill in adverse conditions.  Never before has PTSC enjoyed such a wealth of talent on display at prov. championships and all of PTSC can be proud of these teams and all other PTSC teams that represent the club with honour and pride.
