Planning

As mentioned at the last coaches’ meeting, the Technical Program for St. Charles was interested in your Team Goals and Objectives.  With this in mind, no goal is attainable without proper planning.  A simple calendar, that may be done on word or excel is sufficient to indicate dates, times, locations, of training sessions and games.  With the new appointment of Director of Coaching of PTSC, I feel this is very important in allowing us to become accountable to all involved.

This type of planning benefits all the people involved in your team’s success.  It allows your players and their families to plan their summer around your team’s soccer activities.  It also serves as a great motivator to anticipating your team’s success.

Suggestions for a compressive planning calendar would include starting where you want to finish off.  For example; those wishing to compete in the MSA cup should start their planning around the cup qualification dates and finals, with the intention of representing the province at the Canadian Club Championships (Nationals) in October.  With the idea of peaking at the right time, specific types of training may need to be included in the buildup of these important dates.  Such examples to consider are making sure all heavy fitness programs give your players enough rest to perform at their peak for the crucial games or light training such as working on set plays or team dinner the night before a big game.  All tournaments and team social functions should be included in the calendar as well.

Of course, there are instances when the calendar may be subject to change; and change is inevitable. The advantages and benefits of such a planning calendar are limitless.  Above all, it shows a level of commitment, respect, and professionalism on the coaching staff’s part to the development of their players.
