PORTAGE TRAIL CRUISERS

"It is with great pride that we honour and acknowledge the Portage Trail Cruisers who are the 2005 WYSA Division 6 Regional Girls League Champions and finalists in the Cambrian City Championships!!  Throughout this past outdoor season, this group of girls, with the training and guidance of their awesome coaches, Peter and Paula Corcoran, and with lots of hard work and dedication to the sport and to each other, won the B Side in the Goldenboy Tournament, and went on to finish the regular season in 1st place well ahead of all other teams in their division with a 12-2-1 record.  These 12 wins include a whopping 9 shutouts which is a great testament to our awesome goaltending and our incredible defense.  The Cruisers finished the season with a goals for and against average of 27, having scored 40 goals against their opponents and only allowing 13 goals against.  Using their superior skills and showing true heart and team spirit, these girls continued their winning ways into the playoffs finishing second with a 4-1-0 record and another 4 shutouts to their credit, earning them a spot in the final for the City title against Bonivital Blaze.  In the championship game, both teams fought hard to score but at the end of regulation time, the game was tied with no score taking the game to overtime under the golden goal rule.  Although the Cruisers gave it all they had, unfortunately, this day, victory went to the other team.   Nonetheless, these girls have had a phenomenal season of soccer and we ask that you join us in saluting the Portage Trail Cruisers - League Champions for 2005!!!  You have much to be proud of girls!!"
