IT’S REGISTRATION TIME AGAIN!!! Portage Trail Soccer Club wishes to announce the upcoming dates for IN PERSON REGISTRATION for indoor soccer and provide members with some important registration information. Please click here for more information.
EVALUATIONS / TRYOUTS FOR 2010-11 INDOOR SEASON: Development League registrants born between 2000 and 1998 and Premier and PD registrants born between 1996 and 1997 are required to attend formal tryouts tentatively scheduled for the weekend of August 27-29, 2010. All registrants must register for the tryouts during one of the upcoming registration sessions. A tryout fee of $20.00 is due at the time of registration and must be paid separate from player registration fees. PTSC Technical Committee will confirm the tryout details for registrants born between 1995 and 1992, after the close of registration on August 18, 2010.
Click here to view the 2010 INDOOR EVALUATION/TRYOUT SCHEDULE. While the PTSC Technical Committee does not anticipate tryout scheduling changes, tryouts are subject to change without prior notice. Based on final registration numbers after the close of registration for indoor soccer, the PTSC Technical Committee may elect not to field a team in a specific D-League, Premier or PD division due to low registration numbers, or may elect to combine tryout sessions for different age groups. In divisions with larger pools of prospective registrants, the PTSC Technical Committee may elect to call back players for additional tryouts to finalize the roster selection. PTSC recommends that players consult the tryout scheduling information posted on the PTSC website prior to attending their tryout session.
Renee Therrien: Packed for Green Bay, Soccer Bag and a Great Scholarship in Hand
Portage Trail is very pleased to announce that Renee Therrien, a long standing member of the PTSC Premier Program and former coach of the U13 Premier Development Girls (2009 Indoor and 2010 Outdoor Season), has recently signed on with a 5-year scholarship to the University of Green Bay (Wisconsin) to play on their varsity soccer program.
Renee started her soccer career PTSC at age 12 in the developmental league before advancing to premier the following year.
Her soccer career has been heavily articulated by accomplishment and Renee's success demonstrates that hard work and determination can take an athlete far.
Since qualifying for the provincial team at U12, Renee has earned a place on the roster of every Provincial team until her final year at age 16. In 2004, her U14 Premier team took gold at the MSA Cup Tournament and seventh place the same year at Nationals in Toronto.
She secured a place on the U14 and U16 All-Star roster and also on Manitoba's U16 Canada Summer Game's team, where she was age advanced at age 15. One of the highlights of this period was being asked up to the Regional Training Centre to train in this highly competitive playing environment and with some of the top talent in the country.
At age 16 on the pre-university team, she was scouted for varsity soccer while attending a college tournament in Nebraska in 2009. She, subsequently, tore her ACL in April the same year and underwent corrective surgery last July. Recovery forced her to miss out on the Canada Summer Games in PEI last year, but freed up her time to give back to the club and help develop talent in the Premier Development program.
She recently returned to soccer during the 2010 Outdoor Season on the WSA North Star Premier Woman's team and will continue playing for this team until she heads south to Green Bay, Wisconsin later this August.
Renee plans to major in chemistry at Green Bay and finish up with Pharmacy when she returns back home in 5 years time.
Renee is not the only Therrien to hang up her PTSC soccer cleats and move on to "greener" pastures. Rick Therrien, who served with the PTSC Board for a number of years, retired in May to make way for the new wave of PTSC players and parents. PTSC gratefully acknowledges the support of Rick Therrien in his role of Equipment Director and his other service to the organization since Renee's entry into our program.
Congratulations, Renee Therrien! Keep making PTSC proud to call you one of our own.

NSC Victory - Blazing a "Trail" Where no Canadian Team Has Been
When asked about the victory, their coach, Cory Walpole beamed, "the girls rose to the physical challenge of the competition and took their game to a new offensive level. We doubled the goals of other teams and, defensively-speaking, we had the best goals-against average, as well. This victory was truly a TEAM effort, with all players contributing to a 5-0 record, defeating teams from Iowa, South Dakota, Wisconsin and Minnesota."
If you answered yes to all or some of the above, then we invite you to choose the PTSC Academy Program as their summer vacation destination.
If your child wishes to advance to Premier-level soccer, strong technical skills and intensity are critical to their success. The PTSC Academy Program will expose your child to the technical coaching expertise to elevate their skills to the next competitive level.
PTSC Academy Program will be running a series of week-long summer camp sessions in July and August as per the following sessions:
